Support Group Defined

Support Group(s) are defined as any program, meeting, gathering, or facilitated session hosted by Conversion Therapy Survivor Network, Inc. (CTSN), whether virtual or in person, in which participants convene for peer support, discussion, storytelling, or shared experience. This includes Survivor Sunday, which is held every Sunday from 4:00pm - 5:30pm Pacific Time via Zoom video conference.

1. DISCLAIMER

  1. Support Groups are hosted by Conversion Therapy Survivor Network, Inc. (CTSN) and its volunteers. Support Groups function as a support network rather than a therapy session. Support Groups are not group therapy. Facilitators are not and will not act as mental health professionals.

  2. Support Groups hosted by CTSN are peer-based community spaces and are not designed to provide crisis intervention, suicide prevention services, medical care, or mental health treatment. Participation in any CTSN Support Group is voluntary, and each participant remains solely responsible for their own mental health care and treatment decisions.

  3. While CTSN strives to create a supportive environment, we cannot guarantee specific emotional, psychological, or behavioral outcomes. CTSN, its board members, staff, volunteers, and facilitators shall not be held responsible for any individual’s mental health condition, deterioration, self-harm, suicide attempt, suicide, or other personal actions occurring during or after participation in a Support Group.

  4. Participants experiencing thoughts of self-harm, suicidal ideation, or acute psychological distress are strongly encouraged to seek immediate assistance from a licensed mental health professional, call 988 in the United States, contact local emergency services, or reach out to an appropriate crisis resource in their area.

  5. Participation in CTSN Support Groups constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of these limitations. Participation does not create a therapist-client, fiduciary, supervisory, or professional relationship.

  6. CTSN and its Support Groups are limited to activities that occur within official CTSN programs, meetings, and platforms. CTSN is not responsible for, and will not mediate or assume liability for, interactions that occur outside of official CTSN spaces. This includes, but is not limited to:

    1. Private messages, direct messages, emails, text messages, or other communications between participants outside of CTSN programs

    2. Romantic or dating relationships formed between participants

    3. Financial exchanges, loans, gifts, business arrangements, or service agreements between participants

    4. In-person meetups, travel, shared lodging, or other offline interactions arranged independently by participants

  7. Any external interaction is undertaken voluntarily and at the sole risk of the individuals involved. CTSN, its staff, volunteers, and facilitators are not responsible for the conduct of participants outside official programs and reserve the right to decline involvement in disputes arising from such interactions.

  8. Support Groups are intended for individuals 18 years of age or older unless otherwise specified. Minors must have written parental or guardian consent.

  9. CTSN reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or terminate any session at its discretion for safety concerns.

  10. CTSN does not claim any results, good or bad, within our group. We strive to improve the overall experience of a conversion therapy survivor, but each individual will have different needs.

  11. Participants agree not to hold CTSN, its board, staff, volunteers, or facilitators liable for emotional distress, interpersonal conflict, or advice shared by other participants.

2. SUPPORT GROUP RULES

To help foster a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, the rules and regulations must be followed by all participants.

  1. Confidentiality. Each participant must not share or repeat anything said inside Support Group meetings, especially disclosing the identities of individuals participating.

    1. Confidentiality may be broken if a participant expresses imminent intent to harm themselves or others, reports ongoing abuse of a minor, or if required by law.

  2. Recording Support Group sessions, taking screenshots, using AI transcription tools, live streaming, or other means of recording Support Group sessions are strictly prohibited.

    1. AI-generated closed captions are an exception; however, the transcript must not be saved.

  3. Unless invited to do so or a prior relationship exists, participants are not to reach out to other participants outside of Support Group meetings or any CTSN social platforms.

  4. All participants must respect other identities, (gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, etc.) and will not engage in discrimination or hate speech.

  5. Each experience and opinion may be different, and disagreements may occur. However, rudeness or direct attacks on other participants will not be tolerated.

  6. Participants are to avoid interrupting. If a participant breaks into someone else’s thought, we will return the conversation to the person who was speaking.

  7. We do not discuss group members who are not present.

  8. Each participant is responsible for their own well-being and comfort within the group. While we strive to make it as safe and comfortable as possible, we cannot be responsible for each individual's comfort, well-being, or mental health.

  9. Understand that conversations will delve into triggering topics, and other individuals are not required to give trigger warnings or censor themselves when sharing their story and their truth.

  10. All participants are encouraged to share their stories, but it is not necessary.

  11. Everyone has the right to speak and the right to remain silent.

  12. Everyone has the right to ask questions and the right to refuse to answer a question.

  13. Understand that any advice or thoughts given in this group are just that and not to be taken as instructions.

  14. All participants are to be kind and courteous to each other and not “yuck their yum nor yum their yuck”.

  15. All disputes between participants and/or facilitators must be handled internally with the Conversion Therapy Survivor Network. Disputes are not permitted to be discussed in Support Groups. See the Disputes Section below for more information.

  16. All participants of virtual Support Groups must be fully clothed at all times, meaning attire that would be appropriate for a public setting.

  17. CTSN and its facilitators reserve the absolute right, in their sole discretion, to deny entry to, mute, or remove any participant from the meeting at any time, with or without prior notice or explanation.

3. DISPUTES

All disputes that may arise between participants and other participants or participants and facilitators must follow the outlined process below.

  1. A dispute is to be immediately reported to the CTSN Administration Team at Info@conversionsurvivor.org

  2. In the dispute email, include the names of those involved with the dispute, the date and time of the dispute, and a detailed description of the incident.

  3. The Admin team will review and respond with the next steps and initiate a mediation if warranted.

  4. Disputes are not to be discussed within CTSN programs.

Disputes outside of CTSN programs may not/will not be addressed by CTSN or its facilitators. External disputes include texts between participants outside of CTSN functions, social media posts, personal conversations, etc. CTSN reserves the right to reject involvement in any disputes.

4. DISCIPLINARY ACTION

While CTSN strives to avoid disciplinary actions, there may be instances where it is necessary to do so to protect the safe space and integrity of the programs offered by CTSN.
CTSN reserves the right to take disciplinary actions at its discretion. Any participant found to be in violation of the above rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action. Disciplinary action will be determined based on the severity of the infraction. CTSN volunteers have the right to mute and/or remove any participants from programs as needed.
Disciplinary action includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Written warning.

  2. Removal from the weekly active meeting.

  3. Removal from CTSN social accounts.

  4. Temporary suspension from CTSN programs and social media.

  5. A permanent ban from all CTSN programs, platforms, and communication.
